About Halo Lab-Grown Diamond Engagement Rings — a buying guide
A halo around a 0.75 Ct centre can give the visual footprint of a stone well over a carat. Because small pavé diamonds cost far less per carat than a single large stone, you get presence for a fraction of the price. If size on the finger is the priority and budget is fixed, a halo is the most efficient answer available.
There is a second, quieter benefit. The pavé ring around the centre stone reflects light back into it, which can make a slightly lower colour grade read as brighter than it would alone.
Classic halo — a single row of pavé following the outline of the centre stone. The most familiar and the most forgiving.
Hidden halo — pavé set underneath the centre stone, around the basket, visible only from the side. From above the ring reads as a clean solitaire. It is a detail for the wearer rather than the room.
Double halo — two concentric rows. Maximum visual size, and a distinctly maximalist look.
Floral and cluster halos — the surrounding stones are arranged as petals rather than a plain ring, which softens the geometry.
- Match the pavé colour to the centre. If the small stones are whiter than the centre diamond, the centre will look yellow by comparison. This is the most common mistake in halo rings.
- Ask how the pavé is set. Well-set micro-pavé holds for decades. Poorly set pavé sheds stones.
- Consider the wedding band early. A halo sits wider than a solitaire and does not always sit flush against a straight band. A contoured band solves this.
- A halo makes cleaning matter more. More stones means more surfaces to collect residue. Our free annual cleaning covers this.
