About Women's Diamond Earrings — a buying guide

Solitaire studs — a single certified diamond per ear. The most versatile piece of jewellery you can own, and the one most likely to be worn daily for decades.

Halo studs — a centre stone ringed by pavé, which gives the visual size of a much larger solitaire for considerably less.

Floral and cluster studs — multiple stones arranged as petals or geometric groupings, for more presence than a solitaire without more carat weight.

Climbers, hoops and drops — pieces with movement, for occasion wear or for anyone who wants earrings that read as jewellery rather than as a finishing touch.

Push backs are faster and sit slightly flatter. Screw backs thread on and will not work loose, which is what you want for anything worn continuously or slept in. For diamonds, screw backs are the sensible default. Most designs here are offered in both.

Between 0.15 Ct and 0.30 Ct per ear reads as everyday and works with any dress code. Around 0.50 Ct is clearly visible and still comfortable for all-day wear. Above 1.00 Ct per ear becomes a statement piece and is worth trying on for weight before committing — heavier studs can drag on the lobe over a full day.
